If you are wondering what Amateur Radio is about, it's basically a two way radio service where licensed operators throughout the world experiment and communicate with each other on frequencies reserved for license holders. Welcome to Reddit's own amateur (ham) radio club.Back to the Olympics ! But not giving up.Please read our FAQs before posting | Save "I Just Got Licensed" threads for Monday's Sticky| Welcome! I suppose many have no problems I’m having. I suppose I could try the VOX method? I can’t believe after all this time, the great little KX3 doesn’t play well with Fldgi. Should the USB cable go to ACC1 or ACC2? The only one I have is for the Utility program with a 3.5mm plug. After a few seconds, the check mark at Use Hamlib get unchecked. I select Elecraft KX3 (beta) and my port which is 3. Still, how does the PTT get toggled? Under Rig and Hamlib, I check Use Hamlib. I ordered the proper cable kit from Elecraft anyway. Of course with a Mike plugged in the rig will transmit. I probably don’t have the right cable plugged from Line out of computer to Mic In. Why is a cable in ACC2? So far, I can receive and see waterfall OK. After you discovered your ComPort to be 8 with the Utility, did you remove the USB cable from ACC1? The picture shows nothing in ACC1. In case you have adjusted the bandwidth (or if its set narrow) just turn PBT I knob so it shows approximately BW 3.00 (you should see the width on the waterfall).

Process is pretty easy…another good example of how to do this is below. I found that I didn’t need to modify this much.

Note: I was able to transmit using USB (phone) mode…however the notes in the manual state that DATA A is preferred because it disables compression and optimizes transmit ALC.Īs mentioned in the last bullet from image above…you should adjust MIC gain to proper ALC levels. HINT: If you radio has TX red light on…but no RF power going out, just make a small adjustment to output power (going from 5.0 to 4.9) and that may “wake up” the KX3 and let it work again. The KX3 Owner’s Manual covers the modes and setup in nice detail but here are a few basics. Once I plug everything in I could then see the waterfall. My radio looks something like this (I don’t have a cable in the ACC2 jack). I then connected my computer’s Phones jack to my KX3’s MIC jack. Using the KX3-PCKT cable set (red and green/blue banded cables) I connected the KX3 Phones jack to my computer’s LINE IN jack. I also decided that I would set the levels for each audio device to 50%. You will notice that I am using Line In for Capture (microphone did not work in my setup). NOTE: Hit Initialize to get the radio to talk with FLDIGI (if it errors out with IOERROR there is something wrong with your setup). Next, I went into FLDIGI and set up the Rig control (here are my settings). It is actually quite simple…and I later discovered some helpful hits in the KX3 Owner’s Manual that describes more details on data modes.įirst I discovered my KX3 COM port by using the KX3 Utility and took note of the speed (shown as COM8). Today I decided I would post a few more details of my setup for those who care to see. Yesterday I made my first PSK contact using FLDIGI.
